#WPGinvestigates Holding Power to Account Coverage

Recientemente fui invitada por Transparencia Internacional, para cubrir un evento de periodismo de investigación organizado por la Canadian Broadcast Corporation (podríamos decir que la BBC de Canadá), llamado “Holding Power to Account: Investigative Journalism, Democracy and Human Rights”.

En la conferencia tuve la oportunidad de escribir dos historias muy interesantes. La primera sobre el encarcelamiento de un hombre erróneamente acusado de homicidio – y su experiencia al estar 23 años en la cárcel por un acto que no cometió. El papel del periodismo de investigación para hacer justicia queda claro en dicho relato. El segundo artículo fue sobre la difícil existencia de las voces independientes en la radio pública de Zimbabue, y sus consecuencias así como el uso de las redes sociales para dar un espacio a la libertad de expresión en este pequeño país africano.

Recently I was invited by Transparency International to cover an event on investigative journalism, organized by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (we could call it Canada’s BBC), called “Holding Power to Account: Investigative Journalism, Democracy and Human Rights.”

During the conference, I had the opportunity to write two stories. The first one was about the imprisonment of a man who was wrongly convicted – and his experience staying 23 years in prison for an act he did not commit. The role of investigative journalism to achieve justice becomes clear in this story. The second article was about the difficult experiencies of independent voices on public radio in Zimbabwe, and its consequences as well as the use of social media to provide a space for freedom of expression in this African country.
